"24: Live Another Day" cast Kiefer Sutherland is mum on the show's possible renewal as fans are worried that the finale ratings may cause producers to do what his enemies can't-kill Jack Bauer.
Speaking at the San Diego Comic-Con, Kiefer Sutherland said that he was surprised by what the writers did with Jack Bauer.
"There was so much hope in this guy. With everything he's lost, he's done. ... There's nothing in his immediate future he's fighting for," the DailyNews said.
When fans asked whether he will reprise his role as Jack Bauer in the near future, Kiefer Sutherland did not directly addressed the issue.
But showrunner Jon Cassar has a bit of a consolation prize: "We're still talking about the movie. It's still out there. So, that's good news," he said.
According to Breathecast, producers have made several statements pointing to the renewal of the series for another season.
"Earlier this year, executive producer Howard Gordon confirmed that there could be another '24' limited series to follow 'Live Another Day,' but it depends on the ratings," the website said.
That should be bad news for fans since the ratings for "24: Live Another Day" dropped from the 8.1 million viewers from the US during its debut on May 5 to 6.47 million US viewers by the time the finale rolled along.
Earlier, Fox Networks Group CEO Peter Rice was non-commital about the likelihood of a renewal. He talked to reporters during the Television Critics Association summer press tour where he was asked about the future of the franchise, or whether there's going to be a "24" spinof.
"I loved this year's season of 24. I've always been a fan," he said, in a report by TVLine.
"We haven't had a specific conversation about it coming back yet, but I'm sure we will in the future. It's a wonderful franchise. When you look at the show itself, it has many more stories to tell. I think we need to sit down and talk to the creators," he told the press.
