Downton Abbey Season 5: Downton Abbey Filming Secretly At Harry Potter Locations; Will The Crawleys Spend Christmas At Hogwarts?

Tags

While Downton Abbey Season 5 has finished its filming already for the episodes of the regular season, a recent news leak reports that the cast and crew of our favorite British aristocratic family is shooting in a new, exciting location. And it's none other than Alnwick Castle -- more popularly known as the Harry Potter location for Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.

The Downton Abbey group has for the meantime left Hampshire's Highclere Castle that is the Crawley home to us fans, and have shot a couple of choice scenes at the castle and stately home of the Duke and Duchess of Northumberland.

According to the Radio Times, Downton Abbey will be at their new location until August 8, and this report is supported by the fact the Alnwick's castle's official website has posted a notice that "various areas of Alnwick Castle will have closed or have limited access on July 28 to August 8, due to a filming of a major ITV period drama."

Even the Duke of Northumberland himself has seemingly confirmed this rumor with an official statement he has made that was published in his area's local daily: "As we know from experience, filming somewhere like Alnwick Castle can be very disruptive, but when we received ITV's enquiry, my wife and I felt that we could not miss the opportunity for the castle and town to be associated with such a hugely popular drama series, and we consider it a great honour to be asked to participate."

While rumors and Downton Abbey season 5 spoilers have been rampant, there is no clear indication yet of what exactly these scenes are that have been filmed at Alnwick Castle. Mary's wedding perhaps?

But the more probable story filmed here would be the annual Downton Abbey season 5 Christmas special, a much loved tradition of the series. If that were true, fans can enjoy an extra special Christmas gift: Downton Abbey's Christmas celebration at Hogwarts. Stay tuned to find out
