Avril Lavigne and Chad Kroeger marked their first anniversary with a gift the "Girlfriend" singer can't believe.

Avril Lavigne and Chad Kroeger are savoring marital bliss ever since they tied the knot July 1 last year. The couple took their time, with an engagement that lasted almost a year before that.

Avril was quite floored with Chad's surprise, though. The Nickelback front man set the bar high in first year anniversary gifts, with a 14-carat, pear-shaped diamond ring.

The singer took to social media to flaunt her gift. She tweeted ""I still can't believe my 1 year anniversary gift. 17 carat emerald cut. Wow. I love my hubby."

Their romance blossomed during an acquaintance working on Avril fifth album, way back in 2012. It didn't take Chad long to realize the "Complicated" singer was for keeps, proposing a month and six days after their first date.

Avril recalled the chemistry they immediately had in a 2013 People interview. "It was like we'd known each other forever. It's a very intimate process, and you have to really open up when you're songwriting. When it was over and I had to go work with other people, it sucked. So I called him and asked him to come back to LA to do some more writing with me, and he was like, 'Hell yeah!'"

Avril Lavigne and Chad Kroeger collaborated on several singles, most of which written about their relationship as a couple. Chad admits the themes are considerably gushy for artists in their genre.

Chad's comment during a People Magazine interview: "We wrote a song called My Little Secret, about keeping our relationship under wraps. And others like Let Me Go, Hush Hush, and Give You What You Like. Our writing partner must have been like, 'You guys are making me sick!'"
