"24: Live Another Day" news revealed that Jack Bauer was almost killed off during the season finale, as executive producer Jon Cassar is still hopeful about creating another adventure for Kiefer Sutherland's character.
According to the "24: Live Another Day" news reported by Deadline, executive producer Howard Gordon revealed that Jack Bauer was not untouchable as far as being killed off as they were winding down the season.
"We certainly tried out a lot of different endings and we rearranged the furniture every which way in the room, so we knew what it looked like for other characters to have met with different ends and we tried them all on, up to and including Jack himself," he told the website.
"This has always been a show that is really about the days and the life of this man and no day is probably as intense as a person's last day. So killing Jack was something that was intriguing to us all but it had to be done just right," Howard Gordon added.
However, they just couldn't think of an organic way to kill Jack Bauer that would be fitting to his persona.
Kiefer Sutherland earlier said that ultimately, the only way to end the franchise is through the death of Jack Bauer.
However, speaking at the San Diego Comic-Con, Kiefer Sutherland said that he was surprised by what the writers did with Jack Bauer going into last season.
"There was so much hope in this guy. With everything he's lost, he's done. ... There's nothing in his immediate future he's fighting for," the DailyNews said.
When fans asked whether he will reprise his role as Jack Bauer in the near future, Kiefer Sutherland did not directly addressed the issue.
But executive producer Jon Cassar revealed "24: Live Another Day" news when he said that there could be more adventures for Jack Bauer in the future, according toTVGuide.
"What's nice about it, just like with the ending we had before, is that it's still open. Whether 24 comes back or not, Jack Bauer is still out there. That's what I liked about the ending, and I think that's what a lot of people are going to like about it," he said.
