Michael Higdon is recently targeting a promotion and is hoping to score goals that will get Sheffield United out of League One after joining Dutch club NEC.
The Englishman worked his way through Crewe's academy during his youth and was able to prove himself as a clinical marksman with Alex, Falkirk, St Mirren, and Motherwell before finally moving to Holland last summer.
He scored 14 goals in 32 Eredivisie appearances last term despite Nijmegen struggling in the top flight. He has become the Blades' ninth new signing after closing a two-year deal at Bramall Lane.
The 30-year-old athlete said that right now he is ecstatic that the signing is done. It is indeed a great opportunity for him as he admitted that he is looking forward to the deal. "I had a lot of interest, but when I found out they were interested in me, then with the size of the club and foundation, it is a good opportunity."
He mentioned that he signed a two-year contract in Holland, but did not go well for the team and they got unfortunately demoted. However, he managed to score a good amount of goals for the team which led him to the decision that he will not be playing in the second league in Holland. Higdon also has kids who are still in school, which is why he said he immediately grabbed the opportunity.
It was a great experience for the athlete to see different styles of football as he went over to Holland on his own. "It was an experience and I'm glad I did it, but I want to come back to England and hopefully with Sheffield United I can carry on my goal scoring from and help them climb the table. I'd like to think I can take my chances when they came along."
Higdon is confident that he will fit in well at Bramall Lane, although he admits that he is not so strong of a player, but his age and experience in the pitch are the factors about him.
