"American Horror Story" season 4 spoilers hint of a clown killer which would set the dark tone for "Freak Show," which is described as a cross between "Coven" and "Asylum."

Ryan Murphy dished out "American Horror Story" season 4 spoilers to InsideTV even if the series won't premiere until late this year.

"It was always a concept that Jessica (Lange) and I talked about really early on. It was always her favorite one, which I thought was funny. I've had many different versions that I've run by her. I just love it. It feels really right. I thought it was going to be light but it's turning out to be quite terrifyingly dark, which it feels much more like the Asylum season," he said.

"But look - if you have a character named the Clown Killer, it's going to be dark," he said.

Tim Stack of InsideTV asked Ryan Murphy again about a scary clown, to which the creator replied:

"Yes. The most terrifying clown ever!"

FX head honcho John Landgraf dished out more "American Horror Story" season 4 spoilers to Entertainment Weekly when he talked about the tone of the show.

"Some years it's going to be big and bright and brash and campy the way 'Coven' is," he said. "Other years it's going to be dark and brooding-like 'Asylum' was," he said.

"I guess I would put Freak Show half-way in between the two. It's not quite as brooding and formal and Hitchockian as 'Asylum,' it's got a little bit more humor and a little bit more camp, but its got a brooding period feel to it also," the FX CEO said.

Also, showrunner Tim Minear revealed "American Horror Story" season 4 spoilers to The Hollywood Reporter whe he promised that "Freak Show" is "not like the first three seasons."
