Halt And Catch Fire Cancel Renewal: Is This The End Of The Computer Drama? Ratings Too Low For A Second Season But Producers Stay Positive

With the season one finale finally airing last Sunday, will 'Halt And Catch Fire' cancel renewal for a second season?

With its continuous trend of dismal ratings, this might just be the first and last season of the period drama. Despite the show gaining a steady following, it seems highly unlikely for AMC to renew the personal computer revolution show for another season.

The show debuted to only 1.2 million viewers in the 18-49 demographic on June 1, earning a 0.3 rating, according to TV Series Finale. Viewership increased to 1.4 million by the second week but fell to about 700,000 in the next week. It plummeted to 550,000 viewers as the weeks wore on.

AMC has, however, renewed several shows with low ratings in the past, like 'Turn,' which they allowed to grow. It debuted with only 2.1 million viewers earning a 0.5 rating. But with 'Halt And Catch Fire' viewer rating just keep dropping every week.

In an interview with TVGuide, however, creators Christopher Cantwell and Christopher G. Rogers are optimistic for a second season.

"We have very definitive ideas about Season 2 that we're really excited about," Rogers shared about the possible 'Halt And Catch Fire' cancellation of renewal, "We have shared some of those with AMC. But in terms of this season, you do want it to be a satisfactory story on its own."

They definitely don't see this as the end. Rogers believes that each character has more to say and "we're hoping that we get to tell that story."

Cantwell was more reserved about AMC's decision, but was still hoping that they could continue working with AMC for the second season, "But we know that they have a lot of things to take into consideration in the meantime."

'Halt And Catch Fire' stars Lee Pace, Scoot McNairy, Mackenzie Davis, Toby Huss, Kerry Bishé and David Wilson Barnes.

Should AMC proceed with plans of 'Halt And Catch Fire' to cancel renewal? Or should they give it another chance to grow in the next season?
