Dracula untold

Horror movies 2014 for the month of October pits two compelling tales of supernatural horror against each other: "Dracula Untold," whose titular role is played by Luke Evans, and "Stonehearst Asylum," with Kate Beckinsale in the lead role.

Dracula Untold

Dracula Untold makes it to the 11th place on the must-watch list horror movies 2014 by Movie Moron. According to the site, the film melds vampire myth with history dating back to the 1400s. Luke Evans of "The Hobbit" and "Fast and Furious 6" fame plays the role of Prince Vlad, the very first bloodsucker in vampire genealogy.

Before turning into the ruthless monster he is now known for, Prince Vlad is presented in this flick as a troubled hero driven to desperate measures to save his family and people from vicious invaders. A pact with the devil turns him into a fantastic hero-monster of sorts in this tragic but horrific love story of dark proportions, set in a time of war and magic.

Moviegoers will get to see the other face of Dracula when the movie opens on October 17.

Stonehearst Asylum

The film, which was originally entitled "Eliza Graves," is loosely based on the short story "The System of Doctor Tarr and Professor Ether" by Edgar Allan Poe, reported the Movie Moron. Brad Anderson sits at the helm as director of this movie whose thrills are rooted to the supernatural.

Kate Beckinsale makes her comeback as a horror heroine in this film after her successful stint in the "Underworld" movies. Screenrant shared a gist of the movie, which fleshed out details of Poe's original story and showed how some elements were given a modern makeover. The story focuses on Eliza Graves (Kate Beckinsale) who discovers the secrets of a mental asylum she worked for after graduating from Harvard Medical School.

The mind-wracking mystery behind this second horror movie 2014 film featured here will be revealed on October 24.
