Will the "Left Behind" 2014 trailer be enough to jumpstart a series reboot?
Nicolas Cage struggles to keep things together in the "Left Behind" 2014 trailer. Apocalyptic movies have been scarce as of late, and "Left Behind" plans to spark another trend with melodrama to bank on.
The new movie is actually a reboot of the original 2000 film, which raked in enough earnings for Kirk Cameron to produce a trilogy, all based on the book series. The 2014 reboot suggests the series can't be helped with sequels and prequels, and an overhaul is called for.
Nicolas Cage has starred in movies with end-of-the-world themes before, even starred as a beloved Marvel superhero in one of these. In "Knowing," he was a father caught in a world facing the Biblical end times. He was also the chain-wielding Johnny Blaze in "Ghost Rider," to the dismay of many Marvel fans.
Nicolas Cage is as resilient as Hollywood actors get, managing to pull off roles in movies from every genre. His role in the "Left Behind" 2014 trailer is quite run-of-the-mill, though, and reminds of previous roles from previous movies.
Initial reactions to the film were lukewarm. Some critics believed director Vic Armstrong is stretching the yarn too far, and the movie feels more like it's made for TV than anything else. Nicolas Cage's presence could be the only thing that'll keep the film afloat, which will be confirmed it comes out in theaters.
"Left Behind" deals with a world in the aftermath of The Rapture, a Biblical event where God takes all of his chosen from the earth before mankind's great tribulation. The event happens in an instant, and people simultaneously disappear without warning, as the "Left Behind" 2014 trailer shows.
The movie comes out in October 3, and will also star Chad Michael Murray, Cassi Thomson, Lea Thompson, and Jordin Sparks (firstshowing.net).
