Love Turned Violent: The Disturbing Breakdown of Lee Min Young and Lee Chan's 12-Day Marriage

A marital violence crime involving a celebrity marriage has unfolded after just 12 days. Actress Lee Min Young and actor Lee Chan, who got married on December 10, 2006, have become hot topics because of the shocking reasons for their divorce.

Actress Lee Min Young made her debut at the age of four. Lee Chan, who was 23 at the time, made his debut in the series You're One of a Kind and later starred in the 2004 drama Precious Family. They eventually got married, but their relationship soon began to deteriorate.

As reported by Chosun Daily, Lee Min Young was still pregnant and had been excused from wearing restrictive clothing on December 22, 2006. She suffered multiple injuries on her left side, one of which was bleeding. This incident occurred just two days after she and Lee Chan returned from their honeymoon.

The couple got into an argument about the renovations they were doing in their new home that quickly turned violent, her lawyer Kim Jae Cheol said.

"After the argument— which took place in our car—Lee Chan dragged me from the car and left me on the street," she said, as quoted by the outlet. At the time, she was 15 weeks pregnant and claimed that a blow to her stomach resulted in a miscarriage.

She also alleged that Lee Chan had a history of violence, stating, "He had beaten me more than once before we were married. I had hoped he would change after we tied the knot."

In contrast, Lee Chan denied the allegations during a press conference.

He claimed that he had not kicked Lee Min Young in the stomach or dragged her out of the car.

"We were fighting, and I slapped her cheek," he said, adding that he did not strike her without provocation.

After the event, Lee Chan was found guilty of assault by the Seoul Central District Court and received a two-year suspended prison sentence in 2007, as per The Korean Times.

He was also ordered to perform 240 hours of community service. The court said: "There was no previous conviction of a similar nature, he owned up to what he had done, and the violence had not been planned [or] premeditated."

Both Lee Chan, who had a supporting role in the 2016 K-drama The Flower in Prison, and Lee Min Young are still working in entertainment.

Her latest appearance was as Empress Cheonchu in the Korea–Khitan War.
