The trailer for the upcoming horror film Ouija has been out for a while and the film is the latest in a rash of Hasbro-board-game-to-big-screen adaptations. This one is so scary I'm not sure I will be able to stand the movie itself! I dare you to watch the trailer alone at night with all other lights off! Ha!
The movie stars Olivia Cooke, Daren Kagasoff, Douglas Smith and Bianca A. Santos as a group of friends who use the board to connect with their dead friend. They try to contact a recently deceased member of their group through a Ouija board that may or may not have been linked to her death. In their attempts to contact her, they discover that something something much darker has been called by the board.
The producers of the horror film "Insidious" teamed up with Hasbro toy producers to come up with "Ouija," a horror film coming to theaters this Halloween. The team of producers also collectively worked on certifiably chilling films like Paranormal Activity, Insidious, The Unborn, The Purge, Friday the 13th and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre.
"Ouija" takes an everyday spirit board used to communicate with the dead into a whole new level of scary. The board is a staple in many horror movies, including The Exorcist and the Paranormal Activity films. But this time, the Ouija board will play the star of the movie that will be released come October 24, just in time for Halloween!
Surprisingly, though, the board was actually not originally linked to the occult, but was based on a real thing called "automatic writing" that goes back centuries. It wasn't until the 1900s that the link to the supernatural was created.
The film is developed for the screen by Blumhouse Productions (credits include Insidious and The Conjuring spin-off Annabelle) who team with Michael Bay's Platinum Dunes (the Texas Chainsaw Massacre reboot, The Purge) and Hasbro.
