Retired former two-division UFC champion Randy Couture has moved away from the organization and now is working for Spike TV. The network is associated with their own MMA content provider Bellator.
During his days with the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), Couture became a three-time UFC Heavyweight Champion, two-time UFC Light Heavyweight Champion, an Interim UFC Light Heavyweight Champion, and was the UFC 13 Heavyweight Tournament Winner. Couture is the first of only two fighters to hold two UFC championship titles in two different divisions (along with B.J. Penn).
Couture heads the reality fight series called Fight Master. He is accompanied by former UFC champ Frank Shamrock.
Bellator has just recently hired Scott Coker in which Couture was asked on his impression of the new boss.
He said ""I've not really gotten to speak with [Coker]. I did see him at the Bellator show in Temecula and at Comic Con where I was to promote The Expendables 3. That Bellator show was only the third Bellator event I'd ever been to and I was pleasantly surprised...They had a nice big ballroom, the show was good and the fights were good."
On the other hand, Couture's son, Ryan will be debuting with Bellator this coming September in which he seems to approve. He is also happy with Coker's direction for the Bellator saying "I'm excited to see Scott Coker at the helm [of Bellator]."
He added "He seems to be in the process of doing some re-branding, he's already loosening up fight contracts and seems to be looking to form partnerships with fighters to build their brands, allow sponsors and things like that."
For now, Couture is still unsure where his directions will be going with regards to working with Bellator but he is confident of the new boss. "I'm excited that Scott Coker taking over Bellator. I'm a big fan of his and have a lot of respect for him. He's always been a hand shake kinda guy that followed through on what he said he would do. There's no ego, with Scott. He's a genuine fan and life-long marital artist. I think he gets it."
