"Death Note" cast, plot and release date rumors have started to resurface. The movie was a huge success in Japan, and was raved about by anime fans worldwide when it was first released in 2006.
Because of its success, Hollywood is looking at doing its own version of the film. New reports claim that the project is already in the works with Gus Van Sant on the director's chair. Van Sant was known for directing equally suspenseful and dark movies like "Psycho," "Elephant" and "My Own Private Idaho."
The task was originally assigned to Shane Black, but it was later on revealed that the director quit on the project because he was also directing the "Predator" reboot flick.
The Tracking Board reported that Van Sant will be working with Warner Bros. for the "Death Note" movie.
Another interesting rumor to note is about the actor who will play the demon Ryuk. As of late, only Nicholas Cage's name has been mentioned for the role, with fans commenting that it would be a perfect fit. No official confirmation has been made on this development.
Slashfilm.com gives a short description of the "Death Note" movie:
"Written by Tsugumi Ohba and illustrated by Takeshi Obata, the original Death Note follows a high school student who discovers a mysterious notebook that allows him to kill anyone in the world, simply by writing their name in it. He uses the new tool to turn vigilante, trying to create a better world by offing all the bad guys in it."
"Naturally, his actions catch the attention of law enforcement. They bring in a genius detective called L to help solve the case, and a convoluted cat-and-mouse game ensues. Oh, and there's a race of extra-dimensional death gods who put the book out there in the first place."
"The manga, which ran from 2003 through 2006, has already inspired an anime series, two live-action films, and a movie spinoff in Japan."
