The Federal Communications (FCC) is currently investigating Miley Cyrus' Fourth of July weekend special aired on NBC for possible violations.
Prior to the investigations, viewers who saw the special feature complained about the racy content on the singer's Bangerz Tour, according to FOX News.
"NBC and Miley are pursuing ratings. It is fairly obvious that executives knew what would happen when they decided to televise this special. They knew the programming would be risqué and in questionable taste," Gene Grabowski, executive vice president for Levick Strategic-Communications said.
Several complaints stressed that Miley's antics during her live concert shows were unfit for airing on primetime television. At one point, the "Wrecking Ball" singer was featured thrusting her body against a Lincoln-like statue and at another time, she danced around half-naked men.
One complainant wrote, "She was dressed more in line with a video geared towards MTV. Her performance was inappropriate for broadcast TV, as she grinded along there was a costumed performer depicting President Lincoln following behind her and alongside her and the character acted quite lecherous even patting her on the backside. Very patriotic for the 4th ya think? the Hollywood Reporter noted.
Dan Gainor, vice president of business & culture at the Media Research Center shared the same sentiments with that of Grabowski.
"NBC put Miley on knowing full well it would generate controversy. Unless the fine is several million dollars, they will view it as a cost of doing business as a 'hip' network," he said.
Other than her risqué performances, the FCC is also investigating Cyrus' range of costumes used as part of the 4th of July special on NBC, according to Bustle.
As of late, NBC and the FCC have not yet commented regarding the recent controversy. The "We Can't Stop" artist has not released an official statement as well.
