Kevin Love was traded to the Cavaliers for two number one picks Andrew Wiggins and Anthony Bennett, along with a 2015 protected first round pick. The rebounding demon now joins three-time MVP Lebron James in quest for his first championship.
Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports reported the Kevin Love trade to Cavaliers as he said that the deal was realized with the commitment from the 6-10 forward to re-sign with the team after his free agency in 2015.
The new contract extension will net him the max $120 million, according to Wojnarowski.
"The deal cannot be finalized until Aug. 23, because Wiggins, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2014 NBA draft, cannot be traded until one month after the signing of his rookie contract. The two teams have agreed to the deal, but neither would have recourse if the other decided to pull out of the arrangement before it can be formally completed this month," he said.
According to SportsIllustrated, Kevin Love trade to Cavaliers will help Lebron James get his third championship after leaving Miami Heat to go back home.
"Love, a three-time All-Star, averaged 26.1 points and 12.5 rebounds per game last season and has averaged 19.2 points and 12.2 rebounds over his six-year career," the website said.
Kevin Love signed a $62 million four-year contract extension with the Minnesota Timberwolves back in 2012. In recent interviews, he said that he will opt out of the final year of his contract to become free agent, forcing the hand of the team to make a trade.
Kevin Love's trade to Cavaliers will make them the best rebounding team in the NBA. The Cavs was sixth best in defensive rebounding last season, grabbing 78.5 percent of the opponent's misses, according to ESPN. Lebron James who has an 18.8 percent rate will now team up with Kevin Love who has a 29.8 percent defensive rebound rate, second among NBA players. There's also Anderson Varejao with his 28.6 percent clip, good for sixth in the NBA.
