It could be the wedding of the year, whatever year they plan to marry. The world's most eligible and elusive bachelor, and the brilliant and beautiful woman who finally convinced him to settle down. George Clooney and fiance Amal Alamuddin, are one of the world's most talked about power couples today.

And now, the wedding bells are just one step closer to becoming real as reports have surfaced that the Oscar winner and his lawyer fiancee have the documents needed to get hitched. According to People magazine, Clooney and Alamuddin have just gotten their marriage license in London.

This news was not leaked by paparazzi or the tabloid as is usually the case. A passerby named Susan just happened to be passing by the Chelsea Old Town Hall when she saw the intent to wed notice by George Clooney and fiance Amal Alamuddin. She took a photo, which of course got posted on the internet.

A public announcement such as this one is a legal requirement by European Union citizens like Amal, who are planning to tie the knot. According to the notice, the wedding venue will be in Italy, where everyone knows George Clooney owns a villa in Lake Como.

The wedding looks well on its way as preparations and the necessary events are happening already. Recently, it was also reported that actress Ellen Barkin threw a bridal shower for Amal in New York city. Insiders say that it was a highly private event at her West 12th street home, and guests included Clooney's mother and sister, as well as Alamuddin's mother.

Meanwhile, Alamuddin herself was just recently in Italy, scouting a venue perhaps? Page Six has reported the George Clooney and fiance Amal are eyeing a palace in Venice as the venue for their nuptials.

Whatever the plans, George Clooney feels that he is one blessed man. "I'm marrying up," he recently quipped in an interview with Variety.
