Kristen Stewart doesn't need to prove anything to critics, not anymore. If the trailer for her new movie is to be considered, she has the potential to stand in the same league as the best actors in her generation. Jennifer Lawrence comes to mind.
"Camp X Ray" is a Sundance Festival entry, and seeing Kristen Stewart in camouflage is a departure from the "Twilight" stereotype fans pegged her for. Her acting is also notable more diverse, though her role is still considerably within her comfort zone.
In the "Camp X Ray" trailer, Kristen Stewart is a rookie soldier stationed at Guantanamo Bay, the infamous facility where terrorists and enemies of the state are detained. She gets a crash course on life in the prison, but is eventually acquainted with an unlikely inmate.
Kristen muses about her career, and where it's headed, in a recent Elle Magazine interview.
"Never at any point have I sat down and plotted how I should proceed from here on. As soon as you start thinking about your career as a trajectory-like, as if you're going to miss out on some wave or momentum-then you're never doing anything for yourself anyway. Then you're truly, actually, specifically working for the public. You're turning yourself into a bag of chips."
The new "Camp X Ray" trailer is out, the movie slated for limited theatrical release on October 17.
