Two unknown actors have been cast to portray the characters of Missy Elliot and Timbaland on Lifetime's upcoming "Aaliyah: Princess of R&B" biopic.
Chattrisse Dolabaille will be taking on the role of Elliot and Izaak Smith, who was previously involved in films like "Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Lightning Thief" will play the role of Timbaland, according to The Music.
Elliot and Timbaland were Aaliyah's close collaborators in the music industry and helped her with the release of her 1996 LP entitled "One In a Million."
Such confirmation was released after Zendaya Coleman, who was initially tapped to play the role of Aaliyah, resigned from the role. Actress Alexandra Shipp was then asked to join the film and to play the late singer's character, the Hollywood Reporter noted.
Prior to Coleman's resignation, the former Disney star has already received a slew of negative comments from critics who claimed that she's unfit to take on the role because of her physical attributes.
Coleman eventually released a statement and said that her resignation had to do with the fact that the biopic's executives "failed to handle things delicately considering the situation," Aceshowbiz reported.
Throughout the past couple of months, the film has been going through a series of challenges, not only in terms of artists but also in terms of support from Aaliyah's family.
The film's executive producer, Debra Martin Chase told Billboard that the biopic will indeed "honor the legacy" of the R&B princess.
Multiple sources previously confirmed that Aaliyah's family is worried that Lifetime's biopic will not give the late singer the kind of portrayal she deserves. The network previously stressed that they will honor the late singer.
"Aaliyah: Princess of R&B" will resume filming this summer and is scheduled for release next fall. The film is based upon the book entitled "Aaliyah: More Than a Woman," written by Christopher Farley.
