St Johnstone boss Tommy Wright was pleased with his side after opening the Scottish Premiership season with a 2-1 win at Ross County. Wright's side was only playing for four days after their trip to Slovakia, where they made their way out of Europa League. Nevertheless, the manager thinks that these games his side has played gave them slight of the upper hand.

Goals from Michael O'Halloran and Steven McLean lead the tea, to their victory; while Jake Jervis was able to score one back for Ross County in the 54th minute.

Wright said: "It's always nice to get the first win, particularly on the road, and after the tough game we had last week."

"I thought the players looked fresh and they passed the ball really well."

He mentioned that his side had a couple of scares in the first half and that they should have done better with their goal because they lost it in midfield a bit too easily.

"At 2-1 you can never be comfortable but I don't think Alan Mannus had many more saves to make."

Fitness for his team was never an issue because the players were always fresh. Wright believes that this is what gives St Johnstone the edge among the other teams.

"In terms of pre-season matches, we were probably ahead of County considering the competitive matches we played."

Mannus pulled off excellent saves to deny Jervis and the notable Graham Carey.

On the other hand, Ross County boss Derek Adams was still pleased with the efforts given by his team. "I thought we played well and created a lot of chances," he said.

"We also hit the bar a couple of times and their keeper had some really good saves."

"It is always disappointing to lose any game but overall I was delighted with the performance."
