Regarding rumors concerning his casting in Star Wars Episode VII, Simon Pegg will only give vague, and oblique answers. The media has been in a frenzy trying to decode his statements and social media posts.

Thankfully, the Mission Impossible actor is more forthcoming in his interviews about Star Trek 3. According to Simon Pegg Star Trek 3 being directed by Roberto Orci makes "perfect sense." Orci is the scriptwriter, who could be taking over the directorial duties from J.J. Abrams.

Pegg, who plays Scotty in the Star Trek reboot talked to BBC about his role as USS Enterprise engineer Montgomery Scott. He also mentioned that Orci would be replacing Abrams as Star Trek 3's new director.

"I'm really happy he's doing it as it's kept with the family kind of thing, it's not somebody coming in from outside," Pegg said. "He's a good friend, he's very much part of the Star Trek family."

Orci was a co-screenwriter in the first two movies in the Star Trek trilogy. But aside from this, his screenwriting credits include such stellar movies such as The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Mission Impossible III, and Transfomers. His upcoming film adaption is the Power Rangers movie that is being brought to the big screen by Lionsgate pictures.

"Bob's been there since the first Star Trek - by that I mean the 2009 one - so it seemed to make perfect sense that he come in as a director on this one because he gets it," Pegg said. "He was always the most Trekkie of all of those guys anyway."

Earlier in the month, a Las Vegas convention for Trekkies had Simon Pegg Star Trek actor as one of their panelists. As early as that time, he has confirmed that Orci would be the movie's new director. "Bob is going to direct the new film."

Paramount pictures has not officially confirmed that Robert Orci is indeed the director for Star Trek 3, but Simon Pegg seems confident that he will be the best guy to do it.
