Whenever we tune in to a brand new season of Downton Abbey, there is a bit of a jolt when we first see how much time has passed since we left the Crawley family. We've seen it mostly in the changing fashions of the men and the ladies, and glimpses of the current events that concern the family and their servants.
The upcoming Downton Abbey season 5 is no different, and now we've been given quite preview of the time lapse that has happened. The babies that had been born to the family have grown up quite a bit. Last season, Lady Mary's son was just an infant, and so was Lady Sybil and Branson's daughter.
In the photos taken from Downton Abbey's official Instagram account, Sybbie is shown in a photo with her father Branson. If only Lady Sybil could see her cute, chubby daughter now! Meanwhile, Lady Mary and Matthew Crawley's son George is seen in the photo with a servant. Is this some sort of hint for a Downton Abbey season 5 spoiler? Why is George's mother Lady Mary not in the photo with him?
As for the other Downton Abbey season 5 baby, we sadly, do not yet know how Lady Edith's daughter looks like. The official Downton Abbey Instagram does not include a sneak peek of Lady Edith's daughter yet, but reports have said that we will be seeing her in this upcoming season.
We hope that her presence might be a source of comfort for Lady Edith. She could use all the joy she can get, what with the recent confirmation from the executive producer of Downton Abbey that Lady Edith's fortunes are just going to get worse.
During a Downton Abbey press conference held at the Beverly Hills Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles, the cast and crew of the beloved show shared bits of what's to come, and it is not looking good for Lady Edith.
Executive producer Gareth Neame reveals that more sadness is in store for Lady Edith's life. As if personal tragedies such as being constantly heartbroken, bearing a child out of wedlock and giving said child up were not enough, Laura Carmichael's character has more heartache to come.
According to Carmichael, Lady Edith's sister Mary will be as mean to her as ever. Michelle Dockery, who plays Lady Mary, confirms this: "Mary's mean to Edith especially in this season," Dockery went on. "Me and Laura love it when they're mean to each other, it's more fun to do."
She adds, "Mary doesn't know Edith has a daughter. So Edith certainly won't get any sympathy from her unknowing sister."
