CNET reported Sony CEO Kazuo Hirai as saying, the "mobile must play a crucial role in Sony's plans in the coming years. The Xperia Z2 is one of the first steps in that direction."
Sony's Z2 Xperia is part of a plan for Sony to gain more market share from Apple and Samsung, but Sony has been lagging behind the two after the release of Apple iPhone 5S and Samsung Galaxy S5. With the Galaxy S6 and the iPhone 6 looming at the end of the year, Sony has a challenge ahead in catching up in the race for making the most consumer-friendly smartphone.
