"Game of Thrones" Actor JJ Murphy has died at the age of 86, four days after he filmed his first scene on the hit HBO series.
Murphy was set to join the cast of "Game of Thrones" for its upcoming fifth season and he was to take on the role of Ser Denys Mallister, the oldest member of the show's military order, the Night's Watch, according to iAfrica.
Multiple sources confirmed the Murphy was set to film his next few scenes on the series in the coming weeks.
His agent, Philip Young, released an official statement following his death. "I have never encountered a man with more spirit, passion and love for his craft."
Murphy, who passed away on August 8, allegedly collapsed and died in Northern Ireland, where he was filming scenes from the series, Zee News India reported.
"Game of Thrones" creators and producers confirmed that they will not recast the late actor's role. In an interview with Independent, DB Weiss and David Benioff said, "We will not be recasting JJ Murphy. He was a lovely man, and the best Denys Mallister we could have hoped for. And now his watch has ended."
Murphy, an Irish actor, was also a member of the British actors' union Equity. For years, he has been working at the Belfast Lyric Theatre and was involved in various projects including "Angela's Ashes," "Mickybo" and "Me, and Cal," according to In Entertainment.
Fellow Equity member Maggie Cronin mourned the loss of a legend and said, "His passion for theater, for the welfare and the betterment of actors and those who worked in the performing arts was always there. It was an integral part of the man."
The actor also stars in the upcoming Gary Shore film "Dracula Untold" that is slated for release this coming October.
Murphy is survived by his wife, Mary, and their children.
