The Resident Evil 7 release date may have been confirmed despite RE7 doing a no-show at E3 2014.
Resident Evil 7 won't actually be RE7 but it would be the sequel of the Resident Evil: Retribution movie.
Japanese publication Sankei Shinbum has reported that Capcom will unveil Resident Evil 7 for PlayStation 4 at E3 in June however that didn't pan out as RE7 was a no show at E3 2014.
The report also quashes previous speculation that the next chapter in the multi-million selling survival horror franchise was to be an Xbox One exclusive release.
It should be noted though that the PS4 was the only platform mentioned, but that doesn't rule out an Xbox One release; Japanese media typically only mentions PlayStation platforms when it comes to the mainstream press reports.
When Resident Evil 7 was rumoured a few years back, one of the most popular theories going on at the time was the return of Albert Wesker to face his son, Jake.
This theory was "confirmed" when an alleged employee of Capcom tweeted about Wesker's voice actor going in to the studio to record lines for Wesker and that they are planning to add Alice from the Resident Evil movies to be a playable character in the Resident Evil 7 and that Alice would be voiced by Milla Jovovich herself!
But Cyberland has reported that Capcom has released a statement about Alice not being included in Resident Evil official canon.
Does this mean that Resident Evil 7 is the RE: Retribution sequel game? Cyberland speculated that it could be because Resident Evil 7 would see the return of Wesker but that can't happen as he's been officially confirmed as dead by Capcom but in the Resident Evil movies, Wesker is alive and well. The Wesker voice actor for the games, DC Douglas has denied being contacted by Capcom for Resident Evil 7 but an alleged Capcom employee has confirmed that Wesker's VA has been in the studio for recording which means that the Wesker voice actor for Resident Evil 7 is the Wesker from the movies. The same goes for Milla Jovovich voicing Alice in the game.
Cyberland also reported that the Resident Evil 7 release date is tentively set for Fall 2015.
