Indiana Pacers Positive on Paul George’s Recovery

The Indiana Pacers are confident that Paul George will be making a full recovery on his injury, compound fracture in his right leg, but they are just not sure as to when will that be.

George has suffered an open tibia-fibula fracture on his right leg right after he landed on his right leg awkwardly after trying to defend a layup. His bone snaps right above the ankle early in the fourth quarter of the games. The remaining time was cancelled thereafter.

11 days after George injury, Frank Vogel and Larry Bird had said that doctors believe that George will be able to recover and get back to his old form after a long recovery. Doctors confirmed that the injury did not involve ligaments, tendons, joints or nerves.

But for now, Pacers are still not sure when that will be but what is certain is that it won't happen this season. George underwent surgery Aug. 2 and returned to Indianapolis on Aug. 5. For now, he is now recovering at his home.

Bird said "It's bad enough for the franchise, but I feel so bad for Paul because I know how hard he works, how much it meant to him to play for his country. All he cared about was trying to get better."

Pacers have been struggling over their loss but Bird would like to focus more in keeping the stronger. He said "There is no question about the impact on our team but our goal is to be as strong-willed and determined as Paul will be in coming back. Our franchise has had setbacks in its history but has demonstrated the abilities to recover. Paul will provide the example of that off the court and it is up to the rest of us to provide that example on the court."

But even if the team is put to quite a predicament, Bird is giving George the time to recover. He said "It's going to be up to our doctors, our medical staff and Paul, but we would never put him in a situation where he'd be uncomfortable. If he can play and he's healthy to play, he'll play. If our doctors think he'll play at 60 to 70 percent, we wouldn't do that."
