There is a new Frankenstein movie coming out! But this time it will revolve around the monster novel's author, Mary Shelley. Game of Thrones cast member Sophie Turner, has been cast as the famed author herself Mary Shelley. The 18-year-old actress will star opposite Jeremy Irvine (War Horse) as Percy Shelley.
The movie, which is entitled Mary Shelley's Monster follows the author as she begins to pen her most famous novel. The young writer battles with monsters within herself, as she struggles to not be lured into success and riches for her writing, at a great personal cost to herself.
Mary Shelley's monster also stars Taissa Farmiga (The Bling Ring) as Mary's stepsister Claire Clairmont.
Sophie Turner is of course known for playing Game of Thrones character Sansa Stark, who gets drawn into the power plays of Westeros after her father gets drawn inside the web of lies, and treachery of seen and unseen enemies.
In this movie, Sophie will be playing a decidedly different character. Mary Shelley in this film version is "the story of the most extraordinary 19th century teenage heroine told in a visceral, sexy, contemporary way," says producer Rose Ganguzza, "Our film is not a period drama. It is a story of youth that transcends time, a gothic romance, a love triangle that involves a dark passenger and we are tremendously excited to have such an exciting cast onboard this wonderful project."
The film focuses on the latter part of Mary Shelley's teenage life where she begins an illicit relationship with a married man.
Mary Shelley's Monster will also explore the author's split personality, which will not be a stretch for the Game of Thrones cast member, who as Sansa Stark has been learning to deceive and hide her true feelings. The movie also traces her journey towards becoming a mature who wrote what is now the classic monster novel, Frankenstein.
