Justin Verlander will miss one Start due to shoulder inflammation

Justin Verlander is experiencing soreness on right shoulder and will most likely miss one start for the Detroit Tigers.

On the other hand, Detroit manager Brad Ausmus is happy that it was not worst than what they thought. Verlander's MRI results shows inflammation in a number of different locations but there is no major structural damage. Ausmus said "It's not a surgical injury and as of right now it doesn't seem like he'll have to go on the DL."

He added "t was definitely good news. Any time you're talking about a pitcher and his arm, it's a very fragile area to be talking about. It was certainly a ray of light in a stormy sky"

Since it is very unlikely for Verlander to join the team this coming Sunday's game against Seattle Mariners, he will be replaced by Rookie Robbie Ray.

Detroit manager said "I don't think it would be in Justin's best interests (to pitch). I imagine a little bit of rest would be part of the prescription."

Verlander has a great career from the start of his Rookie years. In 2006, Verlander was named the American League (AL) Rookie of the Year. On June 12, 2007, he pitched a no-hitter-the first ever at Comerica Park-against the Milwaukee Brewers, striking out 12 batters and walking four. He pitched a second no-hitter against the Toronto Blue Jays on May 7, 2011, in Toronto, walking one and facing the minimum 27 batters.

Earler last month, Verlander spoke to Brendan Savage of MLive.com with regards to his game play with the Tigers. He said "I think pitching is constant tinkering. You're always working on things. This year I made more drastic adjustments than I would have liked but I feel like I'm heading in the right direction and will continue working on what I've been working on and go out there and continue to pitch the way I did tonight."

Although Verlander has been troubled this season, he has been a key player for the Tiger for nine years and that his presence-or the lack of it-will highly impact the team during the play offs.
