Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo believes that English teams will race to the peak of their potentials and will be aiming for the heart of the European stage this season for honors.
The former Manchester United winger once again has shown a lustrous performance scoring two goals leading his side to a 2-0 Super Cup victory against Spanish rivals Sevilla in Cardiff.
The 29-year-old athlete is the reigning world player of the year. What had happened in the match against Sevilla was a complete turnaround after his terrible injury-hit World Cup. He was also named the official man of the match by his former boss Alex Ferguson.
When Ronaldo was asked about the chances of Real making the Champions League history by retaining the title, he said: "Madrid is going to be the first team. I hope so."
"Maybe we have the potential to be the best but I believe the players that Real Madrid have bought this season - James (Rodriguez), (Toni) Kroos and (Keylor) Navas - are going to give more support to the team and more quality.
"I'm very happy with the quality that we have in the squad, so it's fantastic and we are going to try and win all the trophies."
England's Champions League victory will be fought for by Manchester City, Liverpool, and Chelsea while Arsenal will be competing against Turkey's Besiktas in the play-off round to joing them in the group stages.
Ronaldo mentioned that English teams are always around and the strength of the teams are astounding.
"English teams are always there, they are always strong teams," Ronaldo added. "Let's see when the league starts and they buy the new players. We have to see what is going to happen."
Finally, the Real star said that he feels comfortable on where he is right now-with the club and with his fellow footballers. He said that he is enjoying every bit of everything in Madrid and is now looking forward to the season.
"In sport anything can happen but hopefully we'll be strong again. We feel confident and will be trying our hardest to win every trophy."
