Bethesda has finally addressed the dreaded "Fallout 4 release date"! What did they say?

In an interview with Rock Paper Shotgun, Bethesda's game director Todd Howard reflected on last year's notorious Fallout 4 reveal hoax that alleged documents leaked out of a Fallout 4 casting call last December 2013 saying that it is a testament to how talented and good Bethesda fans are. The fallout 4 document papers seemingly confirmed the game's Boston setting along with other potential story details but it was just a hoax made up by Bethesda fans.

In response to the Fallout 4 release date and other rumors, Todd Howard said, "The ARG was very, very well done. It's a testament to our fans. And they're doing that stuff and making mods. The stuff they do, we often look at and go, 'Well, why don't we just do that? That's really great.'"

Bethesda games such as the "Fallout" series and "The Elder Scrolls" series have huge modding communities on PC and it not a secret that Bethesda sometimes looks at mods for inspiration and new ideas. One instance of this was a pretty popular mod for "Fallout 3" that allowed users to customize and add parts to weapons was added as an official feature to the next game in the "Fallout" series, "Fallout: New Vegas".

When asked about the existence of Fallout 4 and the aforementioned casting call, Howard replied, "We don't [have a timeframe for our next game announcement], but I think it's gonna be a while. We've gotten fairly used to all the questions and curiosity over the years. Everyone wants information. Right now, we're just trying to figure out which of our ideas are going to stick and finding an appropriate time to talk about it."

He added, commenting on new consoles, "PC is resurgent. Skyrim did better than we've ever done on PC by a large, large number. And that's where the mods are. That feeds the game for a long time. And it's exciting that the new consoles are very PC-like. That opens up avenues for us going forward to do things that we've wanted to do in the past."

"There are kind of random ideas we're working on right now, and it's like, 'Wow, I think there's potential here to do some really cool stuff.'"
