LA Lakers news hint of a possible swan song for both Kobe Bryant and Steve Nash as one of the best point guards in the NBA said he will be retiring after this season. The Black Mamba, meanwhile, is still chasing the scoring record.

The LA Lakers signed Steve Nash, along with Dwight Howard, in its bid to give Kobe Bryant another crack at a championship. The Kobe Bryant and Steve Nash experiment, however, failed as the all-star point guard suffered one injury after another. Dwight Howard was also coming off from a shoulder injury and couldn't quite get his feet from under him.

Worse, Kobe Bryant got sidelined with an Achilles injury and then later his knee gave out.

According to SilverScreenAndRoll blog (https://www.silverscreenandroll.com/2014/8/11/5986047/la-lakers-kobe-bryant-steve-nash), Steve Nash has "missed more games the past two seasons (99) than the decade preceding his arrival (40)."

"For Nash, no angle or amount of space should go uncharted. As the cliche often goes, he literally made something out of nothing," the blog said, even as the 40-year-old admitted that he would never be the same player again when he comes back for another season.

Meanwhile, most LA Lakers news sites have reported of Kobe Bryant promising to come back strong next season as he's supposedly fully healed from his two injuries. But whether he would be just as good pre-injury or not is still up in the air.

Next season, the Lakers would like a semblance of success for the Kobe Bryant and Steve Nash experiment.

Speaking of Kobe Bryant, the latest LA Lakers news from ESPN (https://espn.go.com/losangeles/nba/story/_/id/11350612/2014-nba-summer-forecast-kobe-bryant-scoring-record-chase) forecasted that the Black Mamba is likely to pass Michael Jordan in the scoring record list this season.

Kobe Bryant has 31,700 career points, which closely trails Michael Jordan's 32,292 points. Ahead of them are Karl Malone (36,928) and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (38,387).

"If the 35-year-old Bryant averages 20 points per game for the Los Angeles Lakers, he can pass Jordan for third place in the 29th or 30th game of the 2014-15 season. The Lakers' 29th game is against Jordan's Bulls, on Christmas Day in Chicago," it said.
