"Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2" is believed to be underway, especially with the success of "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles." At present, the current blockbuster is on the heels of a $65 million opening weekend. It is because of this huge success, despite being on its 1st week, that inspired Nickelodeon Movies and Paramount Picture to make an announcement on Sunday regarding their plans for "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2" with its release date by the 3rd of June 2016.

Michael Bay will be returning to the set to produce with his partners from Platinum Dunes. Plus, the writers of "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2" will have Andre Nemec and Josh Appelbaum on board. This duo will be responsible for the sequel's script and also for its executive production. However, there has been no confirmation if Jonathan Liebesman will be returning to the directing team.

Brad Grey, CEO and Paramount Chairman, said in a statement, "To know moviegoers are embracing 'Turtles' with such enthusiasm is everything that we and all our film-makers have been hoping for. We are thrilled with this weekend's result, the enduring power of this franchise, and the opportunity to make another one."

Adam Goodman, the President of Paramount's Film Group, then added, "Launching a new take on the 'Turtles' into the feature film world was a daunting task, because as fans of them ourselves, we felt a great responsibility to ensure audiences were going to experience everything they loved about the Turtles, while also getting to see them brought to life in a way they had never been seen before. The result exceeded our high expectations and the response to the film is beyond great, making it all the more fun to get started on the continuation of their story."

To date, the slate for the 2016 sequel is still being filled out. However, the set release date on June will be putting "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2" up against a raunchy animated comedy, "Sausage Party" from Sony.
