Selena Gomez plays the perfect grieving girlfriend in the 'Rudderless' trailer dropped last Thursday.

The Sundance Film Festival entry is William H. Macy's directorial debut and it looks like the acclaimed actor and new film director thought Gomez played her role very well.

"She is extremely beautiful, very composed, and a very good actress," the 'Shameless' actor said in a press conference according to the Hollywood Life. "She was perfect for the role. She plays the girlfriend, and she has the perfect look."

Known for her past roles in teenage-friendly Nickelodeon shows, Gomez will be taking on a more matured portrayal in 'Rudderless.'

The 22-year-old actress is taking on a more dramatic role as the girl whose boyfriend died in a shootout. Fans will see her cry in heart break, but hopefully will be shedding tears of joy by the end of the film.

While Gomez' dramatic role is quite interesting in the 'Rudderless' trailer, it's Billy Crudup's grief for his dead son that steals the show.

Sam (Crudup) plays an executive who turns to alcohol after losing his son. As his life spirals down, however, he discovers his son's demo tapes and in turn, his own hidden talent in music. To get over the loss, he starts a band with a young man, calling it 'Rudderless' and gets a chance to play in the Trill Tavern (owned by director Macy) in the hopes of finding catharsis and closure for his son's death.

Anton Yelchin helps him take the first steps to getting over his grief and start his music career in the process. In turn, Sam has to realize if he's following his dreams or if he's just doing what his son couldn't do.

Laurence Fishburne and Felicity Huffman also star in the uplifting and hopeful film. It premiered at the 2014 Sundance Film Festival last January.
