Robert Downey Jr. "Iron Man 4" flick discontinuation, for now, has just been confirmed. According to multiple online reports, Robert Downey Jr. has not been contracted to make a 4th "Iron Man" standalone film. Plus, it has also been confirmed that his current deal will only ensure his appearance in the upcoming two "Avengers" films only.

Still, however, "Iron Man 4" Robert Downey Jr. fans have no reason to fret since this does not immediately mean that a 4th "Iron Man" flick is completely ruled out. The reports merely prove that a new deal will have to be sealed for it.

In a recent interview that Robert Downey Jr. had with Entertainment Weekly, it would seem that he, himself, is not opposed to the aforementioned decision. He said, "It's down to Kevin and Ike and Disney to come to us with what the proposal is, and that's on us to agree or disagree. When things are going great, there's a lot of agreement."

"Iron Man 4" Robert Downey Jr. referred to his upcoming "Avengers 2" blockbuster, "When things are going great, there's a lot of agreement. Right now, this has just been swell, hasn't it? This has been a really good one and it feels good and we're having a good time."

Kevin Feige has also hinted that, even if "Iron Man 4" Robert Downey Jr. was out of the picture, the "Iron Man" franchise will still continue. He informed UK's OK magazine a few months ago, "I believe there will be 4th 'Iron Man' film and a 5th and a 6th and a 10th and a 20th. I see no reason why Tony Stark can't be as evergreen as James Bond. Or Batman, for that matter. Or Spider-man."

If an "Iron Man" flick continues to gross $1.2 billion at the worldwide box office, it is a very foolish decision for both Disney and Marvel to kick the franchise to the curb. The huge amounts of money that the franchise earns have compelled both parties to be, at least, open to a new deal that could lead to an "Iron Man 4" movie.
