Death Of The Blackberry Unlikely, Stock Soars As CEO Tweaks BB But May Decline With iPhone 6 And iWatch Release; R&D, Wearable Tech Focus Improve Forecast?:
Death Of The Blackberry: While the death of the blackberry may not be imminent from the financial figures for the Waterloo-Canadian firm, CEO John Chen still needs to nudge the company forward in a market waiting in anticipation of a new iPhone flagship. Adding to that, Android platforms will try to top the iPhone 6 as Samsung is preparing for Galaxy S6 to be released in a few months or during early 2015.
So, while the signs for a Blackberry turnaround are certainly valid, the question remains about how long the Blackberry models can compete for market share with its rivals. This might even include switching to a new product linked to Blackberry. The most common form of linked wearable devices at the moment is the smartwatch or the fitness wearable device like the Samsung Gear 2 or the fitness band which is coupled as a medical device.
Particularly when the smart-phone is no longer something 'iconic' as it was when Steve Jobs outed the first iPhone, it is remarkable that CEO John Cheng's tweaks at Blackberry have gained a hefty stock value and is now a popular stock for investors. While the Blackberry stock has topped the list of hot stocks in 2014 with an addition of 33% so far, Apple Inc added 18%, while Mountainview, Cal-based search engine firm Google Inc. appears to be looking at saturated growth at 8%. But you can bet that Google when make a turnaround with its own unique products like the Android Watch, which it released and the widely controversial Google Glass, which could give way to various new applications once its initial glitch is out of the way.
Certainly, many reports have confirmed Blackberry's huge presence among companies that seem to have gone out of trend with approximately $6.5 billion in losses in just two years. Just as Apple Inc. will have to figure out new strategies and markets going forward, Blackberry faces a similar challenge of catering to new markets and coming up with innovative products. It will be something under the direction of John Cheng, but it will take something more like the research and development solutions Blackberry is capable of maintaining in the long run.
