Overcast skies at night in Houston, Texas may not be a daily occurrence; however, with UFO sightings dotting the scene, things make a turn for the extraordinary.
9 News reported that a hoop of winking lights was seen hovering over the cloudy Houston evening sky last August 11. The many locals who witnessed the alleged UFO sightings wasted no time and immediately took out their gadgets to photograph and video the incident.
According to Tech Times, the images people took of the sightings show were not exactly the same. In some of them, the circle was tilted on one side while the lights blinked. Others have images of it set against a clear sky background, while others feature it moving through clouds.
Carolyn Sumners, vice president for astronomy at the Houston Museum of Natural Science, gave an advice in determining the viability of a sighting. She said that to ensure it is a UFO, it is better to come up with other explanations first before assuming anything, reported 9 News.
Although the unusual objects caused quite a public alarm, skeptics remain...well, skeptical, not of the crowd's reaction, though, but of the origin of those strange lights some witnesses classify as UFO sightings.
Below are some of their theories:
Because the sighting happened during a thunderstorm, skeptics assume that those lights may somehow be connected, reported 9 News.
According to Tech Times, some witnesses said that there was a streetlamp in the vicinity resembling the lights. They assumed that its reflection was the one people saw in the clouds.
Another speculation reported by Tech Times stated that what the observers saw was an aircraft prototype that was being tested by either NASA or the Johnson space Center, both of which are located in the city.
From 9 News, others speculate that it could be an experimental military aircraft.
