The Minions have officially gotten to their rock star status. The way they have become endeared to the public has now catapulted them to having their own movie in the making. When Illumination Pictures first came up with the idea of the "Despicable Me" movies, they might not have expected the Minions to be as internationally loved as they are now.

On August 21, 2012, it was officially announced that a "Minions" movie was going to be out by December of 2014. However, the date was pushed to a later date, specifically July 10 of 2015.

Shortly after "Despicable Me" became a blockbuster, raking in $543 million all over the world, and the sequel "Despicable Me 2" grossing a whopping $970 million, having a "Minions" movie is a very good idea.

As reported by multiple online news outlets, the plot of the upcoming "Minions" movie will be focusing on where the Minions have actually come from. They are the yellow single-celled specimens that were provided with one purpose only, which was to serve as history's villains.

As depicted in the famous franchise, they have had experience working with great villains, such as Dracula and Genghis Khan. Eventually, the Minions have then decided to transfer to Antarctica so that they could start a new life. Once they became all alone, with no boss villain to tell them what to do, they started to get depressed during the 60s.

As a result of this impending depression, the three main Minions, namely, Bob, Kevin, and Stuart, set forth to find a new boss to lead their kin. In their attempt to find the ultimate boss, the trio arrives at a Villain convention and finds Scarlett Overkill, whom, according to them, fit their criteria for their boss quite perfectly.

The same director of "Despicable Me," Pierre Coffin, will still be the director of the upcoming "Minions" movie. However, Illumination Pictures have decided to replace Chris Renaud for Kyle Balda. Renaud have worked with him in the two previous "Despicable Me" flicks. Janet Healy and Chris Melendadri will still be on board for the production team.
