Shakira Tour 2014: 'Loca' Singer Copied Lyrics From Another Musician? Read About The Federal Court’s Ruling Here!

A Shakira tour 2014, which has long been awaited by her huge throng of fans, might end up being placed on hold because of the present controversies that Shakira is being currently involved in. It has been known that Shakira's hips don't lie, but, according to a federal judge, one of her songs have lyrics that have been illegally copied off from another musician.

US District Judge Alvin Hellerstein ruled against Sony Corp. of America just on Tuesday, indicating that two of the said company's subsidiaries are guilty of copyright infringement. The song that is being put in question in this issue is Shakira's hit back in 2010, "Loca."

This latest suit against Shakira actually traces back to the song written by Ramon "Arias" Vasquez, who is a Dominican song writer. According to him, his 1998 product "Loca con su Tiguere" was stolen by a Dominican rapper who goes by the name of El Cata. El Cata's real name is Eduard Edwin Bello Pou. As complained by Vasquez, Pou copied his lyrics for the rapper's 2007 song called "Loca Con Su Tiguere."

El Cata, who was referred to as Bello in the court documents, argued in court that his rendition of the song had nothing to do with Arias'. He claimed that his version talked about being inspired with the relationship he had with his ex-wife, while Arias' version was inspired by a love triangle between his older sister and her two lovers.

In the end, the judge did not buy Bello's explanation at all as it seemed to have conflicted with an earlier testimony regarding the origin of the controversial song's key lyrics. Arias, on the other hand, was quick to provide a cassette tape that he made back in 1998.

As recently discovered, Shakira's "Loca" had lyrics that were copied from Bello's "Loca Con Su Tiguere." The judge then concluded that there was substantial copying involved. Hellerstein noted, "There is no dispute that Shakira's version of the song was based on Bello's version. Accordingly, I find that, since Bello had copied Arias, whoever wrote Shakira's version of the song also indirectly copied Arias."
