Not only is the guy talented, he has the hot looks to match. Little did the world know that the genius director behind HBO's massive hit True Detective was one hot dude, with looks to rival the show's star Matthew Mc Conaughey himself.

True Detective director Cary Joji Fukunaga became an instant Internet star after he bagged the much-coveted Outstanding Director award at the 2014 Emmys held at the Nokia Theater in Los Angeles. It will be remembered that HBO's True Detective has become a critical success because of its brilliant storyline, amazing performances by lead actors McConaughey and Woody Harrelson, and also for its great directing.

And the man behind all that is the 37-year old director, who walked up the stage sporting fancy looks and man-braids. According to JustJared, Cary Joji Fukunaga is half Japanese and half-Swedish. He dated actress Michelle Williams in 2011.

Accepting his award for True Detective, Fukunaga said, "This is awesome, and I'm at a loss for words." His talent and hardwork for directing all eight episodes of True Detective season 1 has certainly been recognized now with the Best Director Emmy.

Although the good looking director will be back for True Detective season 2, he will not be the sole director of the entire series this time around. And it's not because of rumors that Cary Joji Fukunaga clashed with showrunner Nic Pizzolatto. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Pizzolatto has cleared the air about this rumor.

"Cary and I worked together really smoothly," Pizzolatto said, "There was never any contention. Of course, you're going to have discussions and differences of opinion but what matters is that everyone is working without ego toward the best realization of what we have."

In any case, Cary Joji Fukunaga had Twitter and other social media sites buzzing with his name as he stepped up to accept the award for Outstanding Director at the Emmy's with many commenting on his good looks and his braids. An example: Twitter user @alightboom posted, "Where has this mysterious braided man been hiding my whole life?! Google trending cary joji fukunanga to learn more about my competition."
