The Emmy Awards 2014 winners were revealed on Monday, and proved that long-running titles such as "Breaking Bad" and "Modern Family" still dominate television over new shows.
In a report from CNBC, Primetime Emmy Awards 2014 winners consisted mostly of older shows such as AMC's "Breaking Bad", which was named Best Drama Series for the second year in a row.
"Breaking Bad" lead star Bryan Cranston took home for the fourth time in a row the award for Best Drama Actor for his role in the series.
Aside from Bryan Cranston, other "Breaking Bad" cast members Aaron Paul and Anna Gunn were also among the Emmy Awards 2014 winners, receiving acting nods for Best Supporting Actor and Actress respectively.
"Breaking Bad" creator Vince Gilligan said: "Thank you so much for this wonderful farewell to our show."
He added, according to the CNBC report: "This is indeed a wonderful time to be working in television; I think you all know that."
"Breaking Bad" competed with HBO's "True Detective", a thriller starring movie stars Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson.
Also in the Drama category, Julianna Margulies from CBS's "The Good Wife" received the award for Best Drama Actress. "I feel like this is the golden age of television, but it's also the time for women in television," she said. "I feel very grateful to be here."
The winning spree of long-running titles during the Emmy Awards 2014 continued with "Modern Family" as one of the big winners. The ABC show received its fifth consecutive Emmy for Best Comedy Series, besting newer shows such as Netflix's "Orange Is the New Black".
"Modern Family" co-creator Steven Levitan said: "'Modern Family' has been a big, beautiful dream for the last five years, and we thank you for not waking us up."
Also in the Comedy category, "The Big Bang Theory" cast member Jim Parsons received the Emmy for Best Comedy Actor. It was his fourth time to receive the award for his role as Sheldon in the CBS comedy.
Louis-Dreyfus, who plays U.S. Vice President Selina Meyer in HBO original series "Veep", was awarded with her third consecutive Emmy for Best Comedy Actress. "I love the idea of being powerful and powerless at the same time, it mirrors Hollywood in some ways," she quipped.
Other shows that made a "comeback" by winning consecutive Emmy awards in the recent years included "The Colbert Report". The Comedy Central show starring Stephen Colbert won Best Variety Program for its second year in a row.
It was also the second time for comedian Louis C.K. to receive a writing award for FX's "Louie".
A review by The Hollywood Reporter of the Emmy Awards 2014 winners pointed out several snubs, such as HBO film "The Normal Heart" and Netflix shows "Orange Is The New Black", "Derek", and "House of Cards".
According to the review, long-running shows such as "Modern Family" as Emmy Awards 2014 winners are "well past their sell-by date (and) were essentially warmed over and honored again."
