The Sopranos will forever be one of HBO's best drama series. And boy what a finale did they show us! The HBO Sopranos ending showed main man Tony Soprano die at the series finale. But did he really die? Fans have been constantly discussing this topic ever since the show ended in 2007.
But now it seems we have a definitive answer about the controversial Sopranos ending straight from the mouth of the show creator himself. According to Vox.com, creator David Chase himself says that Tony didn't die. Writer Martha P. Nochimson has written an article on the David Chase, and at one point, she asked Chase point blank: "Did Tony die?" Chase shakes his head and responds with the words, "No, he isn't."
It will be remembered that The Sopranos ending was heavily ambiguous, with just the scene abruptly fading to black, which has viewers, academics and fans alike engaging in debates as to the ultimate fate of the mob boss. Plenty of websites have even sprung up to stir discussion and provide theories as to the meaning of the abrupt ending.
Over the years, David Chase has insisted that he didn't mean to make people confused or to engender such a debate.
So if anything this later report will only add fuel to the fire that has existed over the Sopranos ending. But after the word got out from Vox.com's report that Tony Soprano is not dead, a representative from show creator David Chase has released a statement that seems to contradict the Tony is not dead headline.
"A journalist for Vox misconstrued what David Chase said in their interview. To simply quote David as saying, 'Tony Soprano is not dead,' is inaccurate. There is a much larger context for that statement and as such, it is not true," the rep said.
Which isn't really another definitive answer, and so the debate about The Sopranos ending will definitely rage on.
