Which smartphone is the ideal purchase for consumers? We compare the Samsung Galaxy Express 2 against the Huawei Ascend P1 to see which is better.

For the design and display, the Samsung Galaxy Express 2 has a 4.5 inches TFT screen capable of supporting an average resolution of 540x960pixels and 245ppi. The smartphone has a plastic body and it’s more squared than other Samsung models. It weighs 134 grams, and its dimensions are 132.4×65.7×9.8 mm.

The Huawei Ascend P1 has the same screen resolution like its rival, but the display is a 4.3inches Super AMOLED which supports 256ppi and offers a way better color reproduction. The smartphone has a glossy look and the body is almost rectangular. It weighs 110 grams with dimensions of 127.4×64.8×7.7 mm and the display is protected with Corning Gorilla Glass.

In terms of hardware and OS, the Samsung Galaxy Express 2 comes with a dual core 1.7GHz Krait processor which offers a great performance along with the Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 chipset and Adreno 305 GPU. It hosts 1.5GB of RAM and 8GB of internal storage, expandable up to 64GB and it runs on the Android 4.2.2 (Jelly Bean). Plus, it has a layer of TouchWiz on top of it.

The Huawei Ascend P1 on the other hand, is powered by a dual core 1.5GHz Cortex A9 processor, based on a TI OMAP 4460 chipset and it uses a PowerVR SGX540 GPU. It has only 1GB of RAM and 4GB of ROM and it runs on the Android version v4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich), but will receive the 4.2 (Jelly Bean) version.

For the battery and camera specs, the Samsung Express 2 has a bigger battery with the capacity of 2100mAH, while the Huawei Ascend P1 has a non removable 1670mAh battery.

The Samsung device has a 5MP rear camera with autofocus, LED flash, face and smile detection, touch focus, geo tagging and image stabilization. For video calls, user can use the VGA camera on the front. The Huawei has an 8MP rear camera with dual-LED flash, HDR and other features, and the secondary camera is 1.3MP.

The Samsung Galaxy Express 2 cost $270, while the Huawei Ascend P1 costs $195.
