Stephan Bonnar's MMA career has been resurrected as the UFC Hall-of-Famer came out of retirement to sign with Bellator FC. "The American Psycho" also issued a challenge on former UFC light heavyweight champion Tito Ortiz.
Stephan Bonnar's MMA career on a halt in 2012 after his fight against Anderson "The Spider" Silva, where he was handed his first-ever knockout loss over a career that spanned for 11 years. Days after the fight, Bonnar announced his retirement from competition.
But on Wednesday, Stephan Bonnar's MMA career has been revived as he announced his signing with his former promotion company's top competitor to date, Bellator FC.
None other than Bellator FC president Scott Coker confirmed the news through a report by MMA Fighting.
"Stephan is a guy that has been a huge part of this sport and we are excited have him part of the roster," Bellator President Scott Coker said. "He was one half of probably the greatest and one of the most important fights in MMA history, and it happened on Spike."
"After talking to Stephan, I know that's what he wants, and we want to provide that to our fans," he added.
His fight against Forrest Griffin bolstered Stephan Bonnar's MMA career during finalé of the inaugural season of The Ultimate Fighter reality show in 2005. This led to the UFC's decision to induct "The American Psycho" into the UFC Hall-of-Fame.
Immediately after his signing with Bellator FC, Stephan Bonnar issued a challenge to former UFC light heavyweight champion Tito Ortiz, who also fights under the same promotion company.
"I want everyone to know I'm coming out of retirement because it's time to free the MMA world of the virus that's known as Tito Ortiz," Bonnar said. "We've been suffering through his boring fights for too many years, and it's about time that someone beats it out of him once and for all."
