Polish Pawel Wolak has an outstanding record in boxing. He had accumulated 32 total fights, winning 29 of them with two losses and one draw. Most of wins came in as a KO. One of his most memorable fights was when he faced Delvin Rodriguez in 2011 where the Boxing Writers Association of America chose the match as the Fight of the Year.
Indeed, Wolak had a strong running in the world of boxing and had left the ring on high note; right after the match with Rodriguez.
But being a true blue athlete, the 32 year old may be done and over with boxing but is not over with fighting.
Wolak has decided to push further his limits and join the fighters in MMA. He is slated to start his MMA career with a fight on Oct 11. His opponent is yet to be named but will soon be found out on the American Predator Fighting Championship 17 event at the Sears Centre in Hoffman Estates, Ill., just outside of Chicago.
According to Wolak "When I retired, I wanted to take the time to study the new sport I was getting into and be as ready as I possibly could be. I knew there would be a point in my life where I'd be done with boxing and that I was going to go on to fight MMA. "
He added "And I wanted to accomplish as much as I could before I was too old to do it. Let's put it [this] way: I wanted to be able to make the move and do it the right way, prepare myself. I still have my marbles and I'm still physically fit, and now is the time."
Wolak said that he loved boxing but MMA is a real fight adding "It's like a street fight in a lot of ways. In MMA, you have to master, well, not master, but you have to know a lot more than you do in boxing. It's like unlocking a puzzle. You may try this, but then he'll do this and so you have to do this. Everyone has a strength and you have to be able to exploit it, but you have to be prepared to deal with everything, because you're going to see a lot more than you would see in boxing."
