Tony Stewart will be back to NASCAR racing this weekend. This is what his team has announced in its Facebook page.
Since the sprint car racing incident where he allegedly hit Kevin Ward, Jr., the champion driver had missed three races - Watkins Glen (N.Y.) International, Michigan International Speedway in Brooklyn and Bristol (Tenn.) Motor Speedway. But this coming weekend, he will be seen again at the Atlanta Motor Speedway in Hampton, Georgia.
His fans were quick to comment about his decision to return. Some of them gave him the motivation he needed to continue racing; some of them said they can't wait to see him back in his car again. Most of them are just so excited to welcome him back.
According to CNN, New York authorities are continuing their inquiry on the unfortunate event. USA Today reported that a representative in the sheriff's office said that there's no new status to report yet about the investigation.
NASCAR, for its part, issued this statement: "Tony Stewart has received all the necessary clearances required to return to all racing activities and therefore is eligible to compete this weekend at Atlanta Motor Speedway. NASCAR has remained in constant contact with his race team and we will stay very close to this situation as Stewart returns to competition," NASCAR executive vice president and chief racing development officer Steve O'Donnell said.
NASCAR.com reported that the racing plans of the champion race car driver outside of NASCAR have been canceled until further notice.
For everyone who wants to hear what Tony Stewart has to say, watch the live streaming on Nascar.com as he speaks to the media at 1pm ET at the infield media center of the Atlanta Motor Speedway. By 2pm, it's NASCAR president Mike Helton's turn to participate in the said media availability.
