Nico Rosberg Disciplined by Mercedes over Spa Collision

The recently concluded Belgian Grand Prix was not that good as Nico Rosberg car collided with arch nemesis and teammate Lewis Hamilton.

Hamilton claimed that Rosberg had deliberately driven into him during the second lap of the race at the Spa and that Rosberg admitted this. Because of the crash, Hamilton's chance of winning the race was close to zero as he punctured his tire in the crash which led to him retiring from the race while Rosberg finished second which increases his championship lead over Hamilton to 29 points.

Because of this, the Mercedes team called in the attention of Rosberg and Lewis and they had a sit down at team's headquarters in Brackley, England last Friday. They were accompanied by executive director Toto Wolff and technical chief Paddy Lowe. During the said meeting, Rosberg admitted that he was responsible for the contact and apologized for his error of judgment.

With his admittance, Mercedes team decided that a disciplinary action was needed for the circumstance. According to the statement by Mercedes "Suitable disciplinary measures have been taken for the incident. Lewis and Nico understand and accept the team's No. 1 rule: there must be no contact between the team's cars on track. It has been made clear that another such incident will not be tolerated. But Nico and Lewis are our drivers and we believe in them."

Rosberg tops the drivers' standings on 220 points, with Hamilton in second place on 191. There are seven races left, with double points on offer for the season's last grand prix in Abu Dhabi.

According to Hamilton "The fans want to see a clean fight until the end of the season and that's what we want to give them. 'It's going to be a tough road from here but championships have been won from much further back than I am now."

Hamilton was annoyed over Rosbergs risky action saying "He said he did it on purpose. He said he could have avoided it. He said 'I did it to prove a point.'"

During their junior years, Hamilton and Rosberg were close friends but it seemed like the competitiveness got the best of them during the race.
