"Wolverine 3" will be showing on the big screens by the 3rd of March of 2017, according to the public announcement made by 20th Century Fox. David James Kelly has been selected to write the script for the third film in the "Wolverine" franchise. The director will still be James Mangold and, as fans are thankful for, Hugh Jackman will be returning to reprise his role.

To date, there is no actual information on what the plot will be for "Wolverine 3." However, Mangold has previously tipped to Screen Rant that "there are great texts about his connections to others, villains, characters from the lore and from the comics that we can bring out and have another great and meaningful adventure."

Moreover, the production for "Wolverine 3" can only start as soon as filming for "X-Men: Apocalypse" is finally wrapped up. This upcoming "X-Men" blockbuster has already been scheduled to show on the big screen by May 27 of 2016.

Sadly, according to multiple online reports, "Wolverine 3" may end up being the last franchise for "Wolverine," or, at least, the last one that Jackman will be starring in.

In a recent interview with SFX, the 45-year-old Jackman was asked about where he would be interested in taking his character in the upcoming "Wolverine 3." Jackman answered, "I don't know yet. We're talking it through. I still am very ambitious for the character. And tonally, I feel like we corrected the ship with the last one. But, I feel we can still go further, in a way. If I did another one, I'm 99.9% sure it would be the last, so that will inform what it is for me. Well, of course, we're looking at 'Old Man Logan,' because that may be the only option left at this point!"

Sadly for Wolverine's fans, it looks like Marvel has decided to kill him off this September in "Death of Wolverine," which is a four-part serialized story. Michael Marts, Executive Editor of Marvel, told Entertainment Weekly, "For a long time, no matter who Wolverine was battling, he's been the eternal victor. He almost always comes out on top. Now, he finally comes up against an adversary that he cannot win against, he cannot fight. What does that mean for this character who's been around for hundred years?"
