The supposed Renan Barao vs. TJ Dillashaw rematch did not push through due to "The Baron" pulling out due to health reasons. The Brazilian fighter then explained his reasons for doing so, and also promised to "come back and tear T.J.'s head off."
The Renan Barao vs. TJ Dillashaw rematch was originally scheduled for UFC 177 this past weekend, but the 27-year old fighter out of the Nova Uniao camp of Brazil had to pull out of the fight due to health reasons. Instead, newcomer Joe Soto stepped in as a replacement with one day's notice and put on an impressive performance, albeit being defeated via fifth round TKO.
Renan Barao went on to air out his side of the story during Saturday's broadcast on FOX Sports 1, through a report by MMA Fighting.
"I was dehydrating in the bathtub," Barao explained. "I fainted, I hit my head, I was taken to the hospital."
UFC President Dana White told the media during the post-fight scrum that Barao was still three pounds over the weight limit when his body gave out after running out of electrolytes.
But the former bantamweight champion clarified that he had no problems with the manner of which he was cutting weight and that the main reason for him pulling out of the bout was that he hit his head on the bathtub.
"I was fine," Barao continued. "My weight was around regular what I come in for fight week. Everything was fine, everything was going great the whole week. The whole thing was I hit my head in the bathtub and that's where it all went down."
"I've had 35 fights cutting weight this method," he added. "It's always fine for me. I think the whole problem is I got up too fast and I blacked out and I fell, so that was the whole issue."
While there has yet to be confirmation if a Renan Barao vs. TJ Dillashaw fight would still be happening, "The Baron" declared that he is still aching for a rematch, and promised that he will exact revenge on the man who took his title from him.
"I want to come back and I want to face T.J," Barao said. "He's been saying a lot of things and I want to come in here and tear his head off."
