The latest in "Captain America 3" rumors is as juicy as it gets, with Robert Redford pulled in to play a modern-day Red Skull.
Producer of the franchise don't shirk from the "Captain America 3" rumors, even confirming or debunking some in hinted comments. It's expected, with Marvel's knack for giving teasers on almost each of its movies' ending credits.
Previous rumors insisted part 3 will be Chris Evans and Steve Rogers' last stint as Captain America on film, following through on The First Avenger stepping down in an upcoming comic book series. He's passing on the shield and super-serum to Falcon, played by Anthony Mackie in "Captain America: the Winter Soldier."
Robert Redford played the man behind the curtains in the sequel, resurrecting Red Skull's Hydra and using Bucky Barnes as pawn to boot. There are rumors of a Red Skull recast, with Redford himself tagged to take on the role.
Producer Anthony Russo comments on this latest of "Captain America 3" rumors:
"We can't really comment specifically in terms of where we're going with it, just because we don't want to spoil anything for anybody. But certainly, look. That's the great thing about the Marvel universe, is anything is possible. All these characters exist. And as we've seen on the publishing side, there's very inventive, creative ways to make characters relevant again and surprising ways to make the characters relevant again. He's a great character. Whether or not he finds his way back I can't really say." (screenrant.com)
The third installment to the trilogy started production as early as April in Atlanta, scheduled for a theatrical release on May 6, 2016. While details on the new film are currently scarce, Anthony and Joe Russo does confirm "Captain America 3" rumors of a greater villain, setting the example on Bucky Barnes.
"If the characters aren't in jeopardy continually throughout the film, then you lose a certain narrative momentum to the movie. As we said, you can only define the hero against the villain. So the greater the villain, the greater definition you get out of your hero."
