The HBO series which revolves around the era of the Prohibition, and all those who rose and fell with it is in its last season on air. Too bad if you're a fan of Nucky and the whole gang, the show had a promising start, with its pilot episode even being helmed by acclaimed director Martin Scorsese.

But all good things must come to an end, and it has been announced that Boardwalk Empire final season 5 release date is on September 7, and if the trailer recently released reveals anything, we're in for a bloodbath. In the short Boardwalk Empire final season teaser, we get to see our lead character Nucky Thompson (played brilliantly by Steve Buscemi) saying, "The trick is to stay alive long enough to cash out."

But will he be able to stay alive long enough? We remember from season 4 how many characters were killed off such as Richard Harrow (Jack Huston), and we're not sure Nucky can keep out of death's grip for long. Showrunner Terry Winter has promised fans that this final season will be its most "unforgiving" yet.

The pilot episode which will air on September 7, Boardwalk Empire final season 5's release date is entitled "Golden Days For Boys And Girls" and it will start seven years after the last episode of season 4. It will follow the events following Eli's murder of Knox, and their escape from prison with Nucky. The official synopsis for the Boardwalk Empire final season 5 pilot episode reads, "Awash in memories from his pier boy days growing up in 1884 Atlantic City, Nucky recalls first catching the eye of the Commodore. 1931 - Nucky joins Sally Wheet in Cuba and with a US senator in tow, forges ties with Bacardi Rum with the hope of Prohibition's repeal in the US."
