Is there anything that James Franco can't do? The actor his already proven his versatile range. We all know that James Franco movies covers the broad spectrum of comedy films (Pineapple Express), action flicks (Rise Of Planet Of The Apes), and even Oscar nominated acting projects (127 Hours). This time the talented actor has been honored as a director at the Venice Film Festival. He is set to receive the Jaeger-LeCoultre Glory to the Filmmaker award, which is given to a person who has made a significant and original contemporary movie.
The actor's movie called The Sound And The Fury is of course based on the famous novel by esteemed author William Faulkner. This is not the first time that a James Franco movie has been based on Faulkner's work, which is impressive given that the style of the author's writing, known as "stream of consciousness" is quite difficult to adapt to a screenplay befitting a movie.
According to an interview with Deadline, the newest James Franco movie remains faitful to the book, which follows the fortunes of the Compsons family, an influential, aristocratic family who resides in the south.
In the same interview Franco reveals the challenges of adapting the book to the big screen, especially since the story is told from different perspectives and via different timelines. But they were able to work their way around this dilemma and actually found that film as a medium lent itself well to the book style's adaptation. In the interview with Deadline, Franco shares that it is "easier to follow because you can see the visual clues, and it's easier to track time shifts. ... We found ways to capture fragmented stream of consciousness."
